About The Author

Rebecca Wells Phillips, was born in a small town in Tennessee and had always thought of writing a book but never found the courage to see past the pain. Growing up in a political family in predominantly white town, she feared ridicule and anger from the community and decided against writing a book in her younger years. However, she recently had a friend who published one book and was working on another one, so she decided to revisit the idea.

The entire book is based on true-life events from the author’s life. She has chosen not to include names and places to avoid hurting people from her past. The author truly believes that most people don’t realize the pain they caused her and she chose not to be vengeful in her presentations. She also felt that generalizations would help people to see their own real-life events which may parallel the author’s stories. Her sole goal is to help other people, specifically teenagers and the elderly, deal with the pain of being ostracized and bullied just because of race, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, body image, etc.

The author’s pen name Boo Black represents a play on words because all her life, the author has hated being of a different race in a predominantly white town. Currently, she is learning how to deal with her history of self-hate and hopes that her interracial daughter will be fortunate enough not to mimic her negative feelings or experiences.
